Must everything be political?
There must be something wonderful about having political power. Politicians seem willing to go to almost any extent to achieve it or to regain it, once they are out of power. Those who are the "outs" desperately search for issues with which to attack the "ins". Recently the "used to be the next President of the United States", brother Gore, has produced a movie which shows the devastating effects of the melting of the polar ice caps. And as bad as the effects of this would be, that isn't the movie's main message. The main message is to hysterically insist that the increasing temperatures the Earth is experiencing is the result of things humanity is doing.
It was only forty years ago, mid seventies, or there about, that the scientific community was warning us that the Earth was cooling. They were warning us that we may be on our way to another Ice Age. I don't remember if they were saying that humanity was causing the Earth to cool, or not.
I am not an Earth Scientist, but I do know what constitutes "science" in any discipline. And there has been no science which proves that mankind is responsible for the warming cycle the Earth seems to be going through. You see, until the time of the global warming alarms, which are being sounded, science worked like this; A scientific theory would would be created and then a group of experiments would be conducted to either prove or disprove the theory. In the event the experiments indicated that the theory was sound, the scientists involved would publish their theory along with their experiments and invite anyone in the scientific community, who was interested, to duplicate the original findings.
In the event of the dreaded "Global Warming is Caused by Humans" theory, what was published was the conclusion that, yes, man is responsible. However none of the experiments, if there were any, were published along with the conclusions. To compound this "scientific malfeasance", there has been a refusal to make the experiments available to the scientific community. So the indictment of humanity as the cause of Global Warming seems to be based on hearsay.
Am I inferring that the globe isn't warming; that the glaciers aren't melting? Not at all. They seem to be (except for Greenland, the glacier on which is growing). I believe the statistics tell us that the average temperature of the Earth has increased one degree farenheit in the last hundred years.
There is a book by Nobel Prize winner (biochemistry) Kary Mullis called, "Dancing Naked in the Mind Field". In his book, Dr Mullis says that he was told, by a friend, that we (the people) are divided into four groups. They are the Politicians, the Bureaucrats, the Special Interest Groups, and the Voters. His friend also told him that the fourth group was the only one which wasn't highly organized.
A Special Interest Group, like the one which is studying Global Warming, needs money. They call it "funding". And in order to continue to exist, they need continued funding. And in order to get continued funding they need public concern. It's even better if the concern borders on hysteria. If the "voters" were blase' about the so called change in the Earth's temperature the funding would dry up. Understand that all they want to do is to 'study' the problem. And they would really love to be able to study it FOREVER. They leave it up to the Politicians to come up with a solution. This gives the "outs" an opportunity to blame the "ins" for not doing anything to stop the unstoppable. Can you say "demagogue"?
Our Politicians, Bureaucrats, and yes, our Special Interest Groups, continue to demonstrate how they will gladly subvert the needs of the "voters" in order to further their goals.
This is one more ingredient in the recipe for the times we are about to go through.
